Who We Are

A stone's throw from our nation's capitol, the Father McKenna Center was established in 1983 to carry on the legacy of Father Horace McKenna, a saintly priest who served at St. Al's from 1953-1958, returning in 1964 until his death in 1982

The Agenda of the Father McKenna Center

• "To Feed the Hungry"
• "To Shelter the Homeless"
• "To Clothe the Naked"
• (Reference: 25th Chapter of the Gospel According to Matthew)

The Purpose of the Father McKenna Center

• To Meet the Immediate Needs of the Poor and Homeless
• To Educate Students and the Public about the Causes of Poverty and Homelessness
• To Advocate for and with the Poor and Homeless

The Dual Answers to Homelessness

To Improve the facilities and Services available to the Homeless so that they will know that they are valued and loved; and to Empower the Homeless to do more for themselves. One without the other will not work
